Bopaya Bidanda is Department Chair and Ernest E. Roth Professor of Industrial Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering, at the University of Pittsburgh. His research is in the area of manufacturing systems with a special focus on group technology, reverse engineering, human issues in manufacturing, and modernization. Recent work, conducted in collaboration with Dr. John Camillus, has included efforts to develop projects to establish locally-generated DC power sources in Pittsburgh’s economically distressed Homewood neighborhood and in rural India. As director of the university’s Manufacturing Assistance Center, Dr. Bidanda hopes to develop training programs in Homewood to prepare workers for manufacturing jobs in the DC energy field. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He also holds an M.S. from the School of Science & Technology at Western Carolina University, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal (India).
