Michael Anness is a Technology Manager with the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development program for Westinghouse Research & Technology. He is responsible for engineering and commercial leadership supporting Westinghouse SMR development, with a focus on strategic activities.
Previously, Michael served as the Manager of Advanced Reactors for Westinghouse Research & Technology. He was responsible for coordinating strategic and technical interests in advanced reactor technologies, and guiding the development of concepts and innovations.
Prior to that, Michael held various other positions at Westinghouse. Under his leadership as the Product Manager of Spent Fuel Criticality Safety, the product line experienced growth and significant process improvements. He has also supported disciplined product development efforts for fuel engineering and held positions in the Westinghouse Nuclear Services and Nuclear Fuel Product lines. His experience includes working as a nuclear designer responsible for various nuclear power plant reactor physics activities, assisting in the integration of Westinghouse and Combustion Engineering nuclear methods, and conducting radiation shielding analyses.
He holds a B.S. in Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University and a Senior Reactor Operator license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Michael is a member of the American Nuclear Society and North American Young Generation in Nuclear.
